What chemical is the refrigerant in an undercounter refrigerator?
Frig 1.5 yrs old. House smelled awful. all left. aired place out . any continuing danger for those exposed? some felt whoosy
The chemical used for refrigerants, I think they use R22 now, displaces oxygen. As long as everyone got out, the place was aired out completely, and fridge is not still leaking, everyone should be okay.
I am curious as to why it smelled awful. Are you sure the fridge is only 1.5 yrs old? Some of the older ones used ammonia, way back, a long time ago. R22, or whatever R (refrigerant) they are using now, should have only caused problems, for as long as it was in the air. As I have stated, it displaces oxygen, so it is very important to really air the house out, and for everyone to stay outside until feeling better. Also, you need to be sure that it is not still leaking. Even a little bit can make some people feel ill.
