Why is my house is SO hot?

I can’t figure this one out. I know it’s the summer, but my house (on the first floor) is much hotter (as much as 10-15 degrees) inside than it is outside. The second floor is obviously hotter. My thermostat in my living room says 84 right now, and it is 71 outside. This is at 7:30 AM.

I have window air conditioners in multiple rooms in the house, but even they cannot overcome this heat sometimes.

The only things running that generate heat (that I can think of) are: Computer in the living room, refrigerator, dehumidifier in the basement.

Any ideas? This is starting to get unbearable!
I left a window fan exhausting outside in my living room this morning before I went to work.

This part makes no sense. The thermostat in the living room read less than 80 when I went to bed last night.

This morning, it is 71 outside and 84 inside. How did the house heat up overnight when the temp outside dropped?

Thanks for all your suggestions.

You need to open the windows and allow the fresh cooler air to circulate in your part of the house. Without that cooler circulation, the warmer air from the day before will remain and cause it to become even more hot as the outside air continues to heat. When you open your windows, place a fan facing outside into a few of them to literally pull the heated air out and a few fans into the windows facing away from the sun turned inside to literally drag the cooler air in. Once you have cooled the house, you can close the windows and turn the air conditioners on to keep it cool. If you leave the window units off and allow them to reach a temp beyond 4 degrees of your desired temp, it forces them to work much harder and use more energy than if you had left them on all day. Another thing to consider is placing something that helps to block the sun from coming in. I have pieces of poster board taped to the windows that get the most light which are the ones facing east and west. This helps to keep a lot of the heat from transmitting as it bounces off the white and reflects it back outside. A lot of people use aluminum foil but it could reflect it back to the window enough to break it. Heavy white canvas and even cut boxes will work as well but the cardboard will prevent any natural light from entering the space and we all need some vitamin D.
