How long will an electric lawn mower last and where can you get them serviced?
I want to buy a new one- black and decker mm875 mulching mower. How many years can i expect to use it on a small lawn? I know a ton of people who work on gas mowers but nobody that works on electric? Are they something you can NOT fix like some electronic stuff? If you have a B@D MM875 and have info u share or can answer all my questions- u earn 10Pt’s! Thanks
As it happens we have an 875, recently purchased new and doing very nicely, thank you. They have come a very long way in 10 years.
It replaced a 10 year old B&D 18″ cut electric flip-handle which is still running fine. We are replaced it because we want an ‘official’ mulching mower at the main house and a better one at the summer house where it went. There, it replaced a 20 year old B&D 15″ cut metal-deck electric which is still running fine if a bit noisy.
Our neighbor there coveted the old B&D, she got that for free. Along with the old cord (which is also still intact).
We have about 4,000 square feet of lawn at each location.
The get sharpened once per year whether they need it or not (they do). It takes about 20 minutes with a file and a a Dremel for the final pass, most of which is preparation.
I also spray under the deck with PAM (environmentally harmless) before each mowing – very little sticks. Consumer Reports likes them too.
